RALPH STANLEY
From my FAST-FORWARD EMPIRE series
Ralph Stanley . A musician and songwriter in the soulful Appalachian tradition. A lot of his music was influenced by Primitive Baptist church hymns that were often sparse and mournful.
Many of his songs were used in the George Clooney film 'O Brother Where Art Thou'. I played at a festival where Ralph Stanley performed his unaccompanied 'O Death' it was a moment I'll never forget. This artwork references many of his dark songs and his achievements.
Oil-on-paper 16" x 20" $750
